The concrete weight coating provides negative buoyancy for the submarine pipeline to ensure its stability on the seabed. At the same time, it offers the effective mechanical protection for the pipeline during the transportation, hoisting, installation and service period ; especially in shallow sea areas,it can reduce the external force damage caused by fishing vessels and large cargo ships , as well as the damages to complex undersea environment. The concrete weight coating have good performance of high density, compressive strength, durability and weather resistance.
The concrete weight coating system is composed of iron ore aggregate, sand, cement, water and reinforcement materials, can process 35-150mm thickness concrete weight coating for pipe diameter from 6” to 56”, with the density of 2240-3400kg/m3.
Curing is the last key process of concrete weight coating, and the quality of curing will directly affect the performance of concrete weight coating. The curing process is mainly the cement hydration process. Cement hydration is a complex physical and chemical reaction process, in which water is an indispensable substance in the cement hydration process. During the curing period, appropriate curing methods should be taken to ensure a certain moisture content, especially in the early stage of curing, a certain humidity should be guaranteed. Common curing methods of concrete weight coating of submarine pipeline mainly include plastic curing film curing, steam curing, water spraying curing and curing agent curing.
The project Xinyue apply concrete weight coating is to cater a 60,000 DWT vessel with storage capacity of about 58,000m3 of petroleum product. The Jetty Diesel, Jet Fuel & LPG Pipelines transmit from the ship (offshore) pump discharge to the booster pump piping intet Tie-in point.
The gas oil /Diesel, Jet Fuel & LPG ships will berth at draft of 21meter, then the ship discharge pipeline will be installed at 21meters down from the ship discharge /unloading pumps, the concrete weight coating apply for this project is 50mm thickness according to ISO 21809-5 and DNVGL-ST-F101, with curing 28days.
While ensuring the quality and delivery date, it is a challenge for a batch of 90 containers to be shipped on time, but Xinyue adheres to the corporate value of “Innovation With Aspiration” and is brave to try and develop. At present, the batch of pipes have passed the third-party inspection and were shipped smoothly for sailing.
